Dan Carlton Denton

Can Carlton Denton, 61, of Snellville, GA., died in his home on June 4, 2004.  Born in Mississippi, he graduated from Mississippi State University with an advanced degree in wildlife biology and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U. S. Air Force.  For his service as a combat pilot in the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air medals.  The longest serving employee of Ducks Unlimited, during his 32 years of service, Dan helped establish more than 300 DU chapters in nine southeastern states and the Georgia MARSH program.  In recognition of his extensive wildlife conservation work, the Georgia Department of natural Resources recently placed a sign along highway 16 at the Oconee River designating the site as the “Dan Denton Waterfowl Management Area.”

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of 33 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Andrea; his brother, Don; and his sister, Betty Ann Carle.  He was a dear husband and father, brother, son-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, field guide, hunting buddy and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Snellville United Methodist Church, with Dr. Don Denton, Dr. David Jones and Father Jack Durkin officiating.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 7 -  9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Dan be made to either Ducks Unlimited, One Waterfowl Way Memphis, TN 38120-2351 or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 51 Locust Avenue, Suite 201, New Canaan, CT 06840.
