Eleanor Milner Batey
December 28, 1943 – June 2, 2021

Eleanor Milner Batey, age 77, of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. Eleanor was a native of Gulfport. She graduated with honors from Gulfport high School where she was active in Y-teens, class plays, a member of the National Honor Society and was elected Miss Gulfport High School. Eleanor attended Mississippi State College for Women where she was a member of Silhouettes and Jesters Social Clubs, President of the senior class and graduated with honors. Upon graduation, she became a teacher in Hampton, VA for several years where she met her husband, Gary. Later she taught at St. John’s Elementary School in Gulfport. Eleanor enjoyed classical music, reading and volunteering at Garden Park and Memorial Hospitals.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas W. Milner, Jr. and Eleanor Stribling Milner, and, daughter, Kimberly Batey White.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald “Gary” L. Batey, Jr., daughter, Mary Elizabeth Batey; sister, Katherine Anderson; brother, Thomas W. Milner III; step-sister, Cynthia Hutcherson, and step-bother, Joseph Melvin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Monday, June 7, 2021 at St. John Catholic Church, Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be private at Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, Gulfport, is honored to serve the family.
