Richard Lewis Scott

October 11, 1943 – May 18, 1959

Richard Lewis Scott, 15 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester W. Scott, 343 Tegarden Rd., Mississippi City and an Eagle Scout, died Monday morning at Ochsner’s Foundation Hospital in New Orleans following an illness of several weeks.

Young Scott was born in Gulfport on Oct. 11, 1943, attended the Mississippi City Elementary School, Gulfport West Junior High School, and was a member of the sophomore class of Gulfport High School.

He was a member of the Baptist Church; junior assistant scoutmaster, Troop 199 Boy Scouts, Mississippi City, Webelos den chief, Eagle Scout with Palm and member of the Order of the Arrow.

Other than his parents, he is survived by one sister, Jacquelyn Scott; two brothers, Daniel and Gilbert Scott; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Hall, all of Mississippi City, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. O. W. Scott, Grandville, Ill.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock from Riemann’s Chapel in Gulfport with the Rev. P. S. Dodge, pastor of Providence Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lamar Martin, pastor of the Mississippi City Methodist Church.  Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens.
