GRINDER
Job description for Grinder:
Sets up and operates grinding machines (Electric and air powdered hand grinding and sanding tools) to grind external and internal flat or contoured surfaces of metal work pieces of various alloys. Reads from blueprints and/or job travelers product specifications, number of parts to be ground, and type grinding or blasting instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Operates machines to grind and smooth various types of metal parts.
- Examines blueprints and job traveler for proper grinding/sanding instructions.
- Visualizes grinding to be done and plans sequence of operations.
- Selects grinding machine according to knowledge of metal properties and abrasives.
- Verifies conformance to specifications after grinding/sanding.
- Examines completed work pieces for quality.
- Performs routine machine maintenance on tools and work area. Such as air tools oiled each day and electrical cords inspected each day, etc.
- Complies with all safe hand tool grinding practices and company policies.
- Uses computers to job on and off each and every job in the ERP system per job traveler instructions, plus add notes of job performed and quantities.

- Mechanically inclined and able to work independently.
- Ability to use all machine shop hand tools, including computer to be able to job on/off production of parts worked on.
- Manual Dexterity.
- Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to follow safety protocol.
- Ability to maintain a very close attention to detail.
- Exhibits an eye for a good quality finish to produce quality work.
Education and/or Experience:
- No formal education or experience required. High school diploma (preferred) or GED.
- Auto-Body shop experience a plus
- Training is usually carried out on the job, supplemented by internal or external courses where required. Apprenticeship programs, vocational training, community, or technical colleges also a plus.
Language Skills:
- Organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to speak and read English, to understand verbal instructions and read job travelers instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret commonly used machine shop concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines.
Mathematical Skills:
- Solid math foundation. Basic add and subtraction.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writing, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
